Tristan Hurd is a trumpet player, guitarist, educator, arranger, and composer based in Los Angeles, California. A native of Washington, he began playing trumpet at ten years old, inspired by his father, a band director and trumpeter. Motivated by his performance and competition experience in school, Tristan decided to pursue music during his collegiate studies. He received his BA in Music Education in 2012 from Central Washington University and his MM in Trumpet Performance from UCLA in 2015. Tristan performs and competes on a national stage in many idioms including classical, jazz, commercial, and popular styles. He has been been a finalist in the National Trumpet Competition in both jazz and classical divisions. Tristan tours and records with several nationally respected ensembles and is also active as an arranger and educator. Teaching for the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra, a non-profit tuition-free youth orchestra, Tristan also teaches through Pluralistic School One, and maintains a private trumpet studio.
