Julius Reder Carlson

Julius Reder Carlson, Associate Professor of Music at Mount Saint Mary’s University, is an (ethno)musicologist specializing in musical activism in 20th-century Argentina and Chile. In addition to his academic work, he is the co-founder of the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra, a nonprofit organization for low-income and underrepresented youth, and the creator of MSMU’s Women in Music Festival, a celebration of music as a vehicle for positive social change. Julius holds degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles, the Universidad de Chile, and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He has received Fulbright-Hays and DAAD grants for his research.
